ROC kitchen - Sawtelle

Recently I was in Sawtelle and I guess it's been a while.. There were so many new restaurants opened up and here's the one of them. Yes, Chinese / Dim Sum place in Sawtelle. There were no sign of the store because it was still soft opening last week. The food was just average, not the place I wanna keep coming back for. Also my friend told me that the tea was not strong enough.
ROC fried rice with Dungeness crab, egg, green onion, vegetables $12
Fried rice was good. The portion was small for Chinese food.
Shanghai soup dumplings with Dungeness crab & pork (Xiao Long Bao) (8pcs) $9.25
Absolutely not recommended. Me and my friend were both so disappointed. The soup was not hot enough, not enough soup inside. Also I didn't like the taste of the filling. I started feeling sick of eating after 3 dumplings.
ROC crispy balls with crab & shrimp (3pcs) $8
Rating (food): 3.3 / 5
Rating (service): 3.3 / 5
Repeat: Maybe

Asiana Grill Yoshinoya - Downtown

About a week ago, I was invited to media dinner at Asiana Grill Yoshinoya in Downtown, L.A, along to bring one guest but I asked little favor to bring two so I can go with NuttyNomads. We all shared all the food below. Yeah, we love to eat and we do eat a lot.
Asiana Grill Yoshinoya is casual fast-food type of cafe with modern decor, but using fresh and healthy ingredients. This Downtown location was very clean and nice.
So here's how Asiana Grill works. You become the chef and order your meal put together the way you like it. Combine serving styles, proteins and sauces to match exactly the flavor you’re craving. With over 180 combinations, you’ve got a lot of options.
From healthy ingredients to how they prepare your order fresh when you place it. And talk about fresh… their yellow buns are baked fresh every day. Even green tea is prepared fresh daily. That’s a lot of fresh.

menu
Lychee lemongrass water and cucumber lemongrass water
I REALLY loved lychee lemongrass water. It was tasty, and they actually put some lychee in it!
Super salad with Charbroiled steak
Fresh romaine spring salad mix served with grilled rice wedges and a light sesame miso dressing. All topped with sliced cucumbers, julienne carrots and scallions
This dish was our favorite. It was very tasty.
Shrimp tempura
Brown rice cake
It was one of my favorite. Brown rice cake grilled to add a crispy crunch.
Lots of Soup with charbroiled chicken breast with your choice of sauce (I got teriyaki sauce on the side)
Lightly sweet shiromiso base served with a grilled rice cake (yes, there was grilled rice cake in the soup, under chicken) and fresh vegetable medley. Topped with scallions. Another one of my favorite.
Great yellow bun burger with grilled tofu with your choice of sauce (I got side of ginger snap sauce)
Yellow buns are baked fresh daily, served with Asian cabbage salad and sweet potato fries
Big platter with grilled white fish and brown rice
Frozen banana
Cheesecake dipped in chocolate

Towne Food & Drink - Downtown (2)

My second trip to Towne Food & Drink for quick lunch. I had good service and delicious food.
I come here and get pastries sometimes, but I start thinking, maybe their pastries are too sweet for me.
Kool-Aid pitcher caught my eye
dessert menu
Complimentary pretzel bread
Tuscan Kale chop salad $10
maitake/pecorino/cherries/chili&garlic vinaigrette
Kampachi "tacos" $12
hijiki / creme fraiche/ radish
Bite size. Raw Kampachi and hijiki. Their creme fraiche was so creamy and tasty. Tacos were (very) spicy.
I liked bread so I asked for more. It's $5 and they warm up bread, served with extra cheese and butter
Seared Dayboat scallops $19
fig /pickled radish / coconut broth
Those scallops were so flavorful with formed coconut broth, I really loved it.
Red Velvet twinkie $2.50
One of their famous signature red velvet twinkie. They only had two left and I got one. But it was way too sweet for me.
Banana cream tart $4.50
cranberry pop tart $3, pumpkin cheesecake donut $3
Everything is homemade
Rating : 4.7 / 5
Service: 4 / 5
Repeat: Yes
