Lately, it seems, the Fed's are taking over the role of State of Nevada prosecutors in trying some criminals cases.
I first really noticed it in the Father Kevin McAuliffe case where he stole $650,000 from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church to pay for his gambling addictions. McAuliffe stole money from the church donations including collections, candles and the gift shop. Hardly a federal case.
Then I noticed a few violent criminal cases being tried in Federal court here in Las Vegas and then there is this case:
From the LVRJ: A Las Vegas man was sentenced to a little more than 19 years in federal prison Thursday for his role in a series of armed convenience store robberies in 2010.
Raymond Juarez, 22, who led a life of crime as a gang associate while growing up, also was ordered to serve five years of supervised release after he gets out of prison.
Juarez and two other men, Jose Figueroa and Chase Sitton, were charged in six robberies that occurred between November and December 2010. In one of the robberies, a convenience store clerk was shot in the stomach.
All three men pleaded guilty to the crimes earlier this year. Figueroa and Sitton are to be sentenced in August.
On Thursday, Juarez's family members openly wept in court, as Senior U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt told the defendant he was facing 230 months in prison. Juarez, in jail garb and chains, appeared to wipe away tears. http://www.lvrj.com/news/las-vegas-man-sentenced-in-store-robberies-159096375.html
While the LVRJ did not say exactly what the thug defendant was charged with, it seems that in the past, say 2-3 years ago, it would have been in State of Nevada criminal courts.
So, why is the Clark County DA's office giving up on trying cases and then punting them to the Federal courts? Save money? Longer potential sentences? Overworked?

Another Darwin Award winner candidate, this time from Reno, NV.
From the Reno Gazette-Journal: A Reno man who died Wednesday when he fled authorities into a trash compactor has been identified as Rodney L. Wright Jr., 37.
About 11 a.m. Wednesday Reno Municipal Court marshals spotted Wright, who they thought may be wanted for misdemeanor arrest warrants, police said. He fled on his bicycle. Wright then ran from the officers after crashing his bike near the Truckee River Lodge on First and Ralston streets. Marshals lost sight of him and called off the search. But about 11:24 a.m., an employee of the lodge found Wright in the trash compactor and told police.
Police believe he entered the trash chute from one of the floors of the lodge and slid down into the compactor, which activated automatically when he entered. Wright was severely injured and after removing him from the compactor officers immediately began life-saving efforts, police said. An ambulance took him to a hospital where he was declared dead. All we have heard from the liberals this election cycle is Koch Brothers and now Sheldon Adelson who just donated $10,000,000 to the GOP.
The liberals complain about the money these conservatives give to Republicans and how they influence elections.
So, my question to the liberals is this: Have you ever seen a Koch brother, Sheldon Adelson or any of their administrative staffs grab a person off the streets on election day, force them into the voting place, force them to sign in, grab their arms and take them into the voting booth and then points a gun to their heads and forces them to vote for a conservative that they choose and then let them go free. All this is done without the cops being called and reporting a forcible kidnapping.
Of course, the answer is no, of course not.
The fact is the money they give is mostly wasted money. They pad the bottom line of the media and they may get some press but that's about it. Perhaps some influence with the candidate, but that happens with every politician of every political party.
Who influences voters more? Their friends or some TV ad? Their buddies at work or The Koch brothers?
So, all of this nonsense about the evil Koch brothers and others, like the unions is total crap.

So, did today's referees in the Miami Heat-Oklahoma City Thunder come from the Nevada Athletic Commission?
The Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-96, which including the referees taking the Thunder out of their rhythm early in the game and blew several late game fouls that should have been called. But hey, it's the WWE version of basketball. To be sure, the ref's could have called some calls on the Thunder, but the damage was already done the first 5 minutes of the game when the Heat went up 18-2.
So, the Heat go home for 3 games and they could close out the series and not come back to Oklahoma City.
I still say Miami in 6.

Why Romney Will Win in November

I am not going do a lot of predicting or writing many blog posts about the 2012 presidential elections. Quite frankly, just about everyone are doing articles and most have no idea what they are talking about. I'll do stories from time to time but not that many unless there is something important or strange.
Anyways, here is my short take. I think Romney will win because he is going to win several states Obama won in 2008.
Nevada: Romney will win because of the bad economy and because the Mormon vote. With the the exception of Utah, of course, Nevada has the second highest number of Mormons in the country. Harry Reid won in 2010 because he got an easy opponent and he got some of the Mormon vote (Reid is supposedly a Mormon). The Mormon vote will even out the Black and Hispanic vote in Nevada and Romney will clean up most of the white vote.
Florida: it will be close but the biggest swing vote will be fired NASA workers. When the Shuttle program shut down, that essentially ended NASA, laying off 10,000's of workers. While George Bush started the closing in motion, Obama was more than happy to finish NASA off and fired all those employees plus shuttle contractors and other businesses associated with NASA.
Wisconsin: When Scott Walker won the recall election, he put Wisconsin into play. Not only did the election put the State into play, it also took a lot of money out the public employee union's bank accounts. The unions, with fewer union members, will have very little money to put in the presidential race but instead will put their money in the State's senate race.. They are going to have to put their money in the State and local races. The Democrats are also burned out and will not be enthusiastic to vote in November in Wisconsin while the GOP has the momentum.
North Carolina: Obama won this State but will not in 2012. The Dem's are having their convention in Charlotte and I think it will be a disaster. You already have Democrats insulting North Carolina voters for their vote on gay marriage and others trying to yank the convention from North Carolina and that will not go over to well.
Massachusetts: Will Romney lose his home state? With Scott Brown going against a psycho who doesn't even know her heritage in the Senate race, it is quite possible Romney and Brown will win MA.
Montana: I'm not sure how Obama won Montana 2008 but he will not win it in 2012.
Georgia: Romney is going to win the entire South. I am confident that most Georgia voters will vote for the Mormon and not the liberal.
Indiana: See Wisconsin, Montana and Georgia.
I think other states Obama won in 2008 are in play as well in 2012 and the list includes Maine, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado and Missouri.
So, come November, we will have a close election but in the end, in January, we will be swearing in President Romney.

You've heard about this place, of course. Because this place made Jonathan Gold’s Essential 99. Me and my friend wanted to eat some sushi in the area. But it's already 10pm. Noshi sushi was already closed. We were going to Shibucho, but my friend was saying the owner has been changed and the food is not good as it used to be, also the service is not very good. So we ended up coming here, at A-won. Because it was late, as soon as we arrived, our server told us, the kitchen is closing so we have to order right away. Maybe that's why we got some extra sushi pieces.
Anyway, the food arrived very quick. Yeah, of course. I'm sure they all wanted to go home. The food was fine as k-town sushi and sashimi spot, but not the best. If I have to pay my own money, I probably won't be back. It's pricey for what you get. There are other cheaper and better sushi places in L.A.
Also I took pics of the building and the menu, but I lost my photos so I got menu pics online. I'm not sure if the prices are currant or not.

I didn't take pics but there were furikake rice under sashimi. Now that's interesting because usually this type of sashimi box (aka chirasi sushi) is served on plain sushi rice. Also there were fukujinzuke (red pickles served at Japanese curry places). We were both like.. "really?"..

It was almost a year ago, I stopped by before the movie or something. I thought we had enough time to eat but they were so slow making our food so I told them "we really have to go" and they finally brought our food. We took a bite, then wrapped up my crepe and left. I had to eat at the theater. Also to me, this place is overpriced for what you get.
